Beautiful Celtic Appliqué by Machine – Appliqué and Quilt in One Step

If you’ve ever been captivated by the intricate beauty of Celtic knotwork but wondered how to bring that into your quilting – this one’s for you.

In this video, I’m sharing my favorite method for machine-stitched Celtic appliqué, including:

  • The 3 design rules I always follow when working in a Celtic style.
  • How I use bias tubes, water-soluble basting glue, and careful stitching to get smooth, clean results.
  • Why I often appliqué and quilt in one step—and how you can too!

To demonstrate each step, I’ll walk you through the process I use when creating the Celtic Blessings quilt – which is available as a downloadable pattern in my shop.

You’ll find the full patterns and complete instructions for both the Celtic Blessings Quilt and Celtic True Lovers Knot here.

Happy Quilting!

When health challenges made hand-sewing (and hand appliqué and hand-quilting) no longer physically viable for her, Beth Ann’s first instinct was dismay and discouragement. But Grandma Baldwin gave her a loving (but stern!) “No pity parties – just figure out a different way.” So Beth Ann turned to her trusty sewing machine and began devising ways to achieve the fine quality appliqué look she craved faster and easier than she ever thought possible. And a career was born! Now Beth Ann enjoys sharing her accessible “invisible” machine appliqué and creative machine quilting techniques with other quilters and fiber artists around the world.
